[FAIE: Economic Law] Seminar on “Commercial Arbitration” – A First-Year Student’s Perspective

Hello teachers and everyone! My name is Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Duyên, a first-year student from class 24LU111, majoring in Economic Law under the Faculty of Management – International Economics. I believe that most first-year students experience feelings of confusion and anxiety just like I did. I often asked myself how to study effectively, choose the right career path, and avoid feeling “lost” in the vast sea of knowledge. Therefore, I always try to seek opportunities to gain practical knowledge alongside theoretical lessons in class. Fortunately, I had the chance to participate in the seminar titled “Commercial Arbitration – A Practical Perspective” on March 27, 2025.

Before attending the seminar, I did not know much about commercial arbitration. I imagined it as a rather dry and complex legal field. However, after participating in the event, my perspective completely changed. The seminar provided me with valuable knowledge, practical skills, and insightful sharing about resolving disputes through commercial arbitration in real-life situations. These experiences not only helped me better understand my major but also inspired and motivated me to strive harder in my studies.

The program was attended by Law and Economic Law students from different cohorts, lecturers, and especially experienced lawyers, legal experts, and arbitrators in the field.

I was particularly impressed by the sharing from Mr. Vũ Trọng Khang – Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Commercial Arbitration Center (Tracent), and Mr. Nguyễn Đức – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Commercial Arbitration Center and Director of Tracent – Southeast Region Branch. They provided profound insights into their experiences handling contractual dispute cases. Not only did they explain legal issues clearly, but they also shared real-life experiences that no textbook could teach. I found their sharing extremely engaging and meaningful. I was also impressed by how the speakers answered students’ questions. They were enthusiastic, open-minded, and always encouraged us to ask questions.

Through the seminar, I realized that commercial arbitration is not merely a dry legal field; it is closely connected to many aspects of life, such as business, communication, and problem-solving skills. I also learned that to succeed in this field, one needs not only knowledge but also passion, perseverance, sharp thinking, and extensive experience in commercial matters. I hope there will be more programs like this in the future so that we can continue learning and interacting with experienced professionals. I also hope that after graduation, I can contribute in my own small way to the development of commercial arbitration in Vietnam.

Finally, I would like to sincerely thank the organizing committee, the speakers, and our lecturers for giving us such a meaningful and enriching learning experience.
